A Study on the Allergen Skin Tests in Allergic Diseases

Abstract
In order to examine the distribution of causative allergens in allergic diseases and ascertain the proper number and kinds of allergens necessary for skin test in allergic diseases, skin tests with 53 allergens were performed in 57 patients (bronchial asthma 9, rhinitis 44, urticaria 4) at the allergic clinic of F hospital in Taegu from Jan, 1987 to Jun, 1988.
The results were as follows:
The ratio between male and female in the observed patients was 1:1, and the age incidence was the highest from twenties to forties.
Dusts and mites were the most common allergens with positive reaction in 91.2% of the whole patients, followed by tree pollens, molds, grass and weed pollens and miscellaneous allergens positivities of 68.4%, 66.6%, 47.3% and 403% of the patients respectively.
In the positive reaction to each allergen, D. pteronyssinus, D.farinae and house dust were major allergens among the dust and mites, mesquite in tree pollens, T.O.E. in molds, sage miz in grass and weed pollens, and smuts mix in miscellaneous allergens. Brewer¢¥s yeast, pork, chicken and baker¢¥s yeast showed comparatively high frequency in food.
Among the food allergens used in this investigation, 8 allergens showed positive reactions not more than 3% in skin tests, and also these allergens did not have case histories as causative allergens for diagnosis on allergic diseases, so it is desirable to exclude them from the allergens for routine skin tests.
